In soil we stand.

Our Story.

Edible Earth is a not for profit project by For The Better Good, creators of New Zealand’s first plant-based, compostable and regenerative water bottle. We exist to give people a better choice, but we’re not really a bottled water company, we’re a team of Kiwis who are here to be better, and to help you do the same.

We are a small social enterprise focussed on making our mark for our community, by designing waste out of the system. A few years ago we started with our bottles, now we actively divert food waste and compostable packaging from landfill, compost it in our Edible Earth micro-farms throughout New Zealand and grow incredible local produce for communities - all made possible by what we traditionally see as ‘waste’. In everything we’re doing we are proving that waste is a valuable resource and in turn, the bridge to Edible Earth.

Everyone needs to start small, and start somewhere. We have started with this website - where you are right now, a micro-farm on an old bowling green in Porirua and 6 composing sites nationwide. We are in talks with councils about two new community gardens - hopefully coming soon. As we bring more initiatives and content to life you’ll be the first to know.

This may seem like baby steps, however as we spread Edible Earth, turning unused land into food sources, please follow with us, nominate your land, share your ideas, get your children involved, compost your kitchen scraps.

Where we began.

What drives us?

Climate change. Waste issues. Soil depletion. The idea of freedom through food. Most of all, how these issues are all interconnected. By focussing on creating Edible Earth we can address all of these issues - it’s that simple. Healthy soil equals happy people.

Whilst working on For The Better Good we turned waste (used bottles) into a resource - now we’re turning wider waste problems into opportunities. We’re not sure what’s next.

Here's the key to it all - anything that comes from nature, food, grass, leaves, branches etc, that comes to the end of its useful life, is not waste. It is a resource. It was designed this way, to be used and then returned to the earth as a basis for regeneration.

What we believe.

We believe in safeguarding our planet, starting locally, so that everyone in our community and in the future, lives from an abundance of locally grown, nutritious food, whilst reducing climate change. What a mouthful.

We’re inspiring a movement towards soil regeneration and creating Edible Earth together. We’re building a community who believe that we can live the good life, without hurting the earth. We’re educating people by leading initiatives, providing tools and maps that empower individuals to change the(ir) world.

Power to the people.

What we’re going to
do about it.

Edible Earth is here for change. We’re here to do better. We’re here for you. We promise to be a place for education and inspiration. We’ll bring you the hard topics with honesty, and we promise to bring you initiatives with a focus on community. We promise that everything we do is for a more regenerative New Zealand. We also promise that once you’ve pulled your first ugly (but oh, so beautiful) carrot from your very own plot of Edible Earth, you’ll feel such joy that there’ll be no going back.

We got our hands on a study which states that if we can get 16% of all New Zealanders to live regeneratively we will have enough impact on corporations to change the way they produce their food products and handle their waste.

This is only the tipping point, following the 16% we want the remaining 84% to follow suit.
